Massachusetts Only: Meals Tax Reporting
If you are located in Massachusetts and are selling items considered to be meals, you can to keep track of how much was transacted for meals per payment method, in order to fulfill Massachusetts reporting requirements.
Note: if you enable this feature, you will not be able to accept any split payments for your orders; all orders must be paid in full with a single payment.
Make sure you choose a date when you can accomplish all of these steps before your box office opens for the day, as it's not ideal to have the data tracked only partially on the first day.
- Contact us to enable Massachusetts Meals Tax features
- Navigate to Products > Sales Tax Categories
- Create a Sales Tax Category for your meals
- Edit the category and fill out the tax rate; ensure that "Subject to meals tax?" is checked
- Navigate to the Products list, and put all of your products considered to be meals into this category using Bulk Edit or Quick Edit
Once you have completed a day with the Massachusetts Meals Tax features enabled, the following day you will be able to begin downloading the reports.
- Navigate to Sales > Reports > Other Sales
- Choose "Meals Tax" from the dropdown
- Select the date range you need
- Choose [Download CSV]
You will receive a report detailing how much was transacted for meals per payment method.
