Build your Main and Footer menus
at appearance > menus in your admin, you can customize the contents of your main and footer menus to showcase certain pages and improve overall navigation for your customers select a menu to edit the footer menu is selected by default, but if you need to update your main menu, select the dropdown menu to the right of the select a menu to edit text just below the edit menus tab, select the main example, if you'd like to promote an event that's hosted on another site, you can add the link to the page in the url field and add a title for the menu item in the link text field after the fields have been filled, you can add the link to the menu via the add to menu button on the lower right side of the expanded section the added item will be labeled as a custom link in the menu structure panel the navigation label is the text of the menu item, and if you select the open link in a new tab option, selecting the title will open the page in a new tab on the customer's browser it's considered best practice to select this option anytime you add a link to an external website to a menu red arrows emphasize the url field in the custom links section, the add to menu button and custom link item in the menu structure panel categories the categories section allows you to add collections of posts that have been categorized to your menus if you add a category as a menu item, the item will be labeled as such in the menu structure panel red arrows emphasize check boxes to the left of category titles in the categories section, the add to menu button and a category itme in the menu structure panel edit and reorder menu items the edit menus tab allows you to customize the main and footer menus on your site the menu structure panel on the right displays the current menu configuration, and you can click and drag any of the items to rearrange their order if you select the arrow on the right side of any navigation item, the item will expand and reveal options for customization if you'd like to remove an item from the menu, select the remove button on the lower left side of the expanded item a red arrow emphasizes an arrow on a menu item that allows the user to expand the item for more options if you'd like more advanced options for customization (like the ability to add tooltip descriptions to items), select the screen options menu on the upper right side (or dropdowns) for your menus by dragging an item below and slightly to the right of another item items that are a part of a dropdown will be labeled as a sub item within the menu structure panel a red arrow emphasizes the placement of a sub item in the menu structure panel save menus after making edits or adding additional items, select the purple save menu button on the bottom left side of the menu structure panel to update your site menus changes or additions are not saved automatically, so you need to select the save menu button if you need to keep them manage locations the manage locations tab allows you to assign created menus to either the main menu or footer of your site you can create additional menus in the admin and assign them to either location to quickly swap menus to
