How to Sell Gift Up! Gift Cards On Your Website
This article assumes that you have created an account at giftup.com and activated gift card support in Filmbot.
Click the Settings link in your Gift Up! account, then the Gift Card link. This will bring you to the global gift card settings for your account, where you can set default artwork for your gift cards, default expiration dates, etc.
Gift cards are referred to as "items" in Gift Up! To create one, click "Items for Sale" in your Gift Up! account. This will bring you to the item creation page. Fill out the basic details of your card here, but keep the following things in mind.
Only currency-backed cards work with Filmbot at this time. Do not create a unit-backed card.
You can create fixed-price gift cards or let customers set their own value.
Click the "Expand all advanced settings" button at the bottom of the item-creation form. With these advanced settings, you can set card-specific artwork, expiration dates, and more. All of these values will default to the global settings you set in Step One. In the "Visibility, limits, & schedule" section, note that a Gift Up! gift card must be public to work with Filmbot. You can create gift cards and keep them private if you're not ready to sell them—just remember to make them public when they're ready to be sold.
- In your Filmbot site, create a page where the Gift Cards will be sold. Use the Gift Up! Embed page template for the page.
- Next, in your Gift Up! account, click Settings, then the "Get your checkout code/link" link.
- Scroll all the way down to the "Embed our checkout in your website" section, and click the "All other websites" link. It should lead to you a page with an embed code.
- Click the "Copy to clipboard" button, then go back to your Filmbot page editor and paste the entire embed code into the "Gift Up! Embed Code" text field.
- Publish the Filmbot page—the gift cards are now for sale on your site!
- Note: Customers can also use this page to check their gift card balances.
When getting the Gift Up! embed code, click the "Customize your checkout installation code" button (shown in the following screenshot for reference). This will reveal a simple set of options where you can tweak the checkout so that, for example, only some cards are listed for sale. Using this method, you could create multiple different gift card checkouts on your site, each one only selling one card or a set of cards.
